Should Cremazie riding be renamed after hockey great Maurice Richard?

A Quebec member of the legislature wants her riding named after former NHL great Maurice (Rocket) Richard.

Marie Montpetit is expected to file a motion in the national assembly on Thursday to have the Montreal riding of Cremazie eventually bear Richard’s name.

Montpetit said the initiative follows moves by Richard’s family and a local minor hockey association the Montreal Canadiens legend helped found.

She said there is nothing in his longtime neighbourhood to remember him by.

The riding is currently named after Octave Cremazie, a Quebec poet who was born in 1827 and died in France in 1879.

Cremazie also has a major thoroughfare and a subway station named after him in Montreal.
