Smoke was visible near the scene Tuesday afternoon and a helicopter could be seen flying over the wooded area with a water bucket. Multiple fire crews were on hand to battle the blaze, luckily weather conditions were in their favour.

“The wind is pushing it towards the ocean, which is really helpful,” said Scott Schaffner, divisional commander with Halifax Regional Fire.

Around 2:30 p.m, the fire was determined to be under control, although fire officials say they will remain at the scene for several hours to put out hot spots.

Investigators are still working to determine how the fire started.
