The Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) has ordered a service investigation into a Facebook post which alleges police misconduct.
A Facebook account under the name Alex Hamilton claims in both Facebook and Instagram posts that he was the victim of an attack by multiple members of the Lethbridge police.
Hamilton also added a video to Facebook explaining his account of events.
The LPS said all allegations against their officers are taken seriously, thus an investigation has been deemed necessary.
Police said members of the Professional Standards Unit will be seeking out the man who posted the allegations to social media so the matter can be fully investigated.
The police also said they want the public to note that they usually do not initiate internal investigations based solely on comments posted on social media, as they do not meet the requirements of a formal complaint under the Police Act. However, in this case, police said because the comments allege misconduct by numerous officers, they view the allegations as unique and in the interest of the public.
Global News attempted to contact Mr. Hamilton but had not heard back by the time this article was published.
Lethbridge police said they will not comment any further at this time as the investigation is still ongoing.
