Death of 30-year-old woman found by lake in Laurentians now deemed homicide

MONTREAL – Quebec provincial police have confirmed that a woman, whose body was found in a wooded area in Grenville-sur-la-Rouge Friday evening, was the victim of a homicide.

According to police, a local resident discovered Marielle Portelance’s lifeless body on Chemin Scotch near Cook Lake at around 7 p.m.

At the time, police described the death as suspicious.

Following the results of an autopsy, the death was reclassified as a homicide.

Although the circumstances surrounding Portelance’s demise are still unclear, police said the death was recent.

The 30-year-old victim was a resident of the town of Hawkesbury, not far from Grenville.

Police said there are no suspects in the case and investigators with the Sûreté du Québec are asking anyone with information to call 1-800-659-4264.
