What would human bodies need to look like in order to withstand a car crash? Introducing Graham.
The Transport Accident Commission in Victoria, Australia, teamed up with traffic researchers, a trauma surgeon and a sculptor to create Graham.
The superhuman body is equipped with features that would protect Graham in a serious car crash, including a large skull to cushion the brain, no neck to eliminate the risk of spinal cord injury, and joints that move in all directions to increase flexibility.

One of Graham’s quirkiest features are his ribs. They are fitted with fleshy sacks between the bones, mimicking the protective effects of an airbag.
“It’s sad that we need to think about changing our body just so that we can survive a motor vehicle crash,” said trauma surgeon Christian Kenfield, who collaborated on Graham.
The TAC hopes Graham will highlight the vulnerability of the human body and emphasize the need to improve safety and transportation infrastructure.
“Cars have evolved a lot faster than humans and Graham helps us understand why we need to improve every aspect of our roads system to protect ourselves from our own mistakes,” TAC CEO Joe Calafiore said in a statement.
Graham is set to travel throughout the state of Victoria to continue the TAC’s educational campaign.
