Cochrane RCMP say reports of threats made against a local school ended up being without merit.

Police were contacted by the vice-principal at Mitford Middle School on Monday about possible threats toward a member of the school community, allegedly made via Snapchat.

RCMP said they went to the school and talked to staff, witness and a suspect, but found the threats were not substantiated and said there were no safety concerns.

RCMP are reminding the public to be aware of what they are posting on social media, warning that it can be easily misinterpreted.

This isn’t the first time Cochrane RCMP have investigated threats against a local school.

A 15-year old high school student was charged last month with uttering threats after allegedly posting a photo of himself with ammunition on Snapchat.

The RCMP said the image posted warned students not to attend Cochrane High School on a certain day.

The teen was charged and released into his parents custody.
