It’s far from a done deal, but a controversial proposal for some Kelowna beaches is now in the consultation phase with citizens.
In response to a public outcry from local dog owners over a lack of space for their pooches to to swim and roam freely, the City of Kelowna proposed five off-leash dog beach and park locations: Cedar Avenue, Lake Avenue, Poplar Point Drive, Munson Pond Park and a “mini” beach near the Sails Plaza.
While some residents are happy with the proposal, others are against it.
The city held feedback sessions at each one of the proposed locations, where residents could fill out a survey with their responses. The final sessions was Wednesday night in downtown Kelowna.
While the feedback sessions are now over, you can still have your say by filling out the survey online until June 28.
After all the results are in, city staff will look over the surveys and bring forward a report to city council with suggestions on if and where the off-leash beaches should be approved.
