MONTREAL – With emotion in his voice Bernard Drainville officially announced his departure from politics at a press conference in Longueuil Tuesday morning.
A representative of the Parti Québecois (PQ) and current Quebec MNA for the Marie-Victorin riding in Longueuil, Drainville explained that he lost motivation after the resignation of former PQ leader Pierre Karl Péladeau.

Drainville will be moving on to be a radio show host for FM93.
Drainville is expected to replace former MNA Nathalie Normandeau on FM93, who was suspended without pay from the station following her UPAC arrest in March.
As someone who helped introduce the PQ government’s Charter of Quebec Values, Drainville said in the short term he doesn’t see himself returning to politics.
“We have the right to be a bit tired of something,” Drainville said. “We have the right to start new challenges where we will feel useful.”

Drainville said the political life didn’t allow him to be as involved with his family.
“I’m not leaving for family reasons,” Drainville said. “But, on this day that’s a little sad for me, I admit I’m happy to spend more time with my family.”
He proceeded to give a heartfelt thank you to his political team and family.
As for the future of the PQ, Drainville didn’t give away information, but he did say “stay tuned” as to who will be the leader of the political party.
