Officers were called to the shooting near Ozerna Road, between 69 Street and 165 Avenue, at around 8:45 p.m. on Friday, May 27.

Gary Yemane, 63, was found lying on the sidewalk with gunshot wounds. He was declared dead at the scene.

“This was essentially daylight,” Sgt. Steve Sharpe with the EPS said. “We anticipate there were lots of pedestrians in the area.

“We believe that there are a number of other people who were witness to this.”

Police are now looking for the driver of a black, four-door sedan with tinted windows, possibly a Dodge Charger, that was seen in the area just before the shooting.

Police are also looking for the driver of another dark-coloured vehicle that was spotted north of the crime scene. Police believe one person got out of the vehicle and walked in the direction of where Yemane was found.

Officers would also like to speak to a woman who was driving a cream-coloured van or SUV. Police said she was wearing a light-coloured hijab and may have spoken with other people at the scene after the shooting took place.

In the days following the shooting police were searching for an older, black Toyota sedan. They said the vehicle could be a Corolla or a Camry and was seen going southbound on Ozerna Road the night of the homicide. Police are still looking to speak with the driver of that vehicle.

Police hope witnesses will come forward so they can piece together what happened.

“A witness may not be the one who actually sees it unfold, but there are moments after (when) they saw or heard something, or they were a block or two away at the time. This information is essential,” Sharpe said.

“Quite often in homicide investigations, it is a little piece of information that helps us tie together the overall chronology.”
