MONTREAL – Jury selection is set to begin Monday in Montreal in the trial of Richard Henry Bain, the man accused in a deadly 2012 shooting incident at the Parti Québécois election event.

Bain is charged in connection with the slaying of lighting technician Denis Blanchette outside Montreal nightclub Metropolis, on Sept. 4, 2012.
The shooting occurred as then-Parti Québécois leader Pauline Marois was toasting her party’s election win.

Bain also faces other allegations, including two counts of attempted murder and several weapons-related charges.

The trial has been delayed numerous times, most recently in May for Bain to undergo surgery.
Superior Court Justice Guy Cournoyer was informed on Friday that Bain is ready to proceed with the trial.
