Someone has ripped off the plaque of the Harry Jerome statue.

The Vancouver Park Board says this is just the latest in a series of thefts involving Vancouver monuments. It is now looking at ways of  avoiding the problem, including looking into what glue is used to hold the plaques in place.

The cost of replacing the stolen items can range from $300 to $1,000 each.

Jerome was a Canadian track and field runner who represented Canada in the 1960, 1964, and 1968 Summer Olympics, winning the 100 metre bronze medal in 1964.

The Harry Jerome International Track Classic is an event held at Swanguard Stadium in Burnaby every year. The Harry Jerome Sports Complex in North Vancouver and the Harry Jerome Sports Centre in Burnaby are also named after the runner.
