Good Samaritans tried to pull survivor out of Toronto crash that killed 3

Toronto police say Good Samaritans tried to get one of the survivors out of a mangled car in a horrific weekend crash that killed three young people.

Const. Clint Stibbe said several witnesses stopped at the scene at Jane Street and Sheppard Avenue around 3:30 a.m. Sunday after the Acura rolled over and struck a light fixture, ejecting four of the five people inside.

Stibbe said the quick-thinking Good Samaritans attempted to pull one of the two survivors out before first responders arrived.

Investigators want to speak with them for information on the crash, and to thank them for their efforts, Stibbe said.

Police have spoken to witnesses but are asking anyone who saw the crash to contact them.

A 21-year-old woman and two men aged 19 and 22 were pronounced dead at the scene.

A 24-year-old man was rushed to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, while a 22-year-old man suffered life-threatening injuries and remained in that condition Monday, Stibbe said.

Police said the Acura initially hit a Mercedes Benz at Jane and Steeles Avenue, and was speeding south when the driver lost control, hitting another vehicle before crashing.

One of the victims was thrown over a fence and the force of the collision ripped off the car’s trunk and left debris strewn across the road.

Investigators are looking into whether impaired driving was a factor.

Police have said that if the driver is one of the survivors then charges may be laid.

Names of the victims have not been released.
