The driver taken into custody after a Tuesday morning crash that killed a 32-year-old RCMP officer in Langford has been released without being charged.
Cst. Sarah Beckett of the West Shore Detachment in ‘E’ Division died in the line of duty in a collision with another car. The driver of that car suffered some injuries and was taken into custody.
The investigation remains active and on-going. Analysts have completed the examination of the scene and are continuing to gather evidence.
They say, as with any criminal fatal crash investigation, investigators will take the time necessary to gather all information and evidence and consult with Crown Counsel with respect to applicable charges.
Police say investigative steps being taken are in line with other fatal collisions.
Meanwhile, tributes continue to pour in for Beckett.

She joined the RCMP in 2005 and spent 11 years in British Columbia, posted to the Port McNeill, Langford Municipal, Colwood and West Shore Detachments. She leaves behind her husband and two young children. She had only recently returned from maternity leave.
A GoFundMe campaign has raised almost $50,000 for her family.
A candlelight walk, that will start at the crash scene, is set to be held on Sunday at 8:30 p.m. So far, more than 500 people have said they will attend.
