Paramount Theatre’s last picture show

Kelowna theatre closes doors after 67 years – Mar 29, 2016

KELOWNA, B.C. – From first dates to family outings, movie-goers who had made fond memories at the Paramount Theatre returned Monday night to the Bernard Avenue venue to visit one last time before the lights went out.

The Kelowna theatre opened in 1949, when the Okanagan city was barely home to 10,000 people.

Orson Welles stared in The Third Man that year. And fittingly, the film noir was the last show on the screen Monday night.

The Paramount property has been purchased by Ronmor Holdings, a Calgary developer who plans to turn the location into a restaurant and retail space.

The company says they plan to keep the large Paramount sign on the building.
