Emergency crews were called to the 10800 block of 143 Street Tuesday evening for reports of shots fired.

When they arrived they found one person with gunshot wounds. That person, who has not been identified, was rushed to hospital in serious condition.

At this point police believe this was a targeted shooting.

Anyone with further information who has not already spoken to police is asked to contact Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 or, if they wish to remain anonymous, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or www.solvecrime.ca.

There have been more than a dozen shootings in Surrey so far this year.

At this point, investigators say most of the shootings do not appear to be linked, but residents are becoming increasingly concerned.

“It’s real for us,” Doug Elford of the Newton Community Association said earlier in March. “We feel it every day and we don’t want this to escalate into what happened before. They’ve got to get on top of this now before it gets really bad.

Surrey RCMP Cpl. Scotty Schumann said they don’t know the motive for the shootings.

“I can say that we’re working very hard behind the scenes to try and identify all of the people involved as well as what’s driving them to this sort of violence,” he said.
