KELOWNA – A distracted driving enforcement blitz Wednesday morning resulted in 37 violation tickets being issued to Kelowna drivers in less than three hours.
Simultaneous operations were conducted at various locations in the city.
RCMP volunteers holding signs reading “leave the phone alone” helped count the number of people using their electronic devices while driving.
“Sadly, even motorists who were reminded by our volunteers to drive free of distractions were still caught continuing to commit the offence by our enforcement officers,” says Cst. Jesse O’Donaghey in a news release. “There are no text messages, emails or conversations that are so important that you need to endanger yourself or others around you.”
There is a $167 fine for using an electronic device without hands-free while behind-the-wheel and it comes with Driver Penalty Points.
