Ontario teenager spends Friday night in jail for skipping school

BARRIE, Ont. – Police in Barrie locked up a teenager overnight for being constantly absent from class.

Police say an arrest warrant was issued last Tuesday under the Education Act.

Police say the 16-year-old girl repeatedly skipped school and didn’t show up for her originally scheduled court date on the absences.

Police say she was found on Friday and spent the night in jail before she appeared before a judge on Saturday.

It’s mandatory in Ontario for those between the ages of six and 18 to attend school.
