SIU investigating after fatal North York police shooting

TORONTO – Ontario’s police watchdog is investigating after officers fatally shot a man in North York Friday.

The Special Investigations Unit says police officers confronted a 30-year old man outside a residence near Bayview and Steeles avenues around 10 o’clock Friday night.

The SIU says that during the confrontation several officers opened fire, hitting the man, who was later pronounced dead at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre.

No other details about the incident are being released at this time.

Four investigators and three forensic investigators have been assigned to the case.

The SIU is an arm’s-length agency that investigates reports involving police where there’s been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
