SAGUENAY, Que. – A funeral service honoured a Quebec police officer killed in the line of duty earlier this month.

Thierry LeRoux was shot on Feb. 13 as he and another officer responded to a domestic call.

LeRoux, 26, had been on the force for just six months in Lac-Simon, a small Algonquin reserve in northwestern Quebec.

His coffin was draped with the flag of the Lac-Simon police department as it was carried into the Chicoutimi Cathedral in Saguenay, about 250 kilometres north of Quebec City.
Premier Philippe Couillard and several hundred police officers were among those attending the funeral.

After completing a police technology degree, LeRoux graduated from Quebec’s police academy in November 2013 – excelling in sports and physical conditioning.
