REGINA – The Regina Humane Society is hoping to receive lots of love and money this Valentine’s Day, as they prepare the phone lines for a four hour fundraising event Sunday night.
The annual telethon is now in its 28th year, and is looking to raise $50,000 dollars.
“Everything we do at the humane society is donor supported, we are 100 per cent funded that way, so it’s a very important night”, Regina Humane Society Director of Marketing Bill Thorn explained.
The money will go towards the usual animal adoption services but will also fund the society’s other lesser known programs.
“We do provide animal protection services for the City of Regina, cremation services when that service is needed, education programs. We have ongoing programs within the schools.”
“Those are just some of the things we do and the money at the telethon supports those programs all year long”, Thorn said.
The society said they’re relying on the generosity of Saskatchewan residents, and is urging people at home to dial in or donate online.
“Any money, little small, five dollars ten dollars whatever you can afford. We’re not looking for big amounts from everybody. We’re looking for what you feel you can afford and feel comfortable with”, Volunteer Bev Pyne urged.
The televised event starts at 6 p.m. and runs until 10 p.m on Access TV, or online at www.reginahumanesociety.ca.
Through the years, the Telethon has raised over $800,000 dollars for the Humane Society.
“The people of Saskatchewan are very very generous when it comes to helping people out and we’re hoping that that’s going to be the case. We’re confident we can get there”, Thorn said.
