Overnight fire displaces 13 residents in downtown Saint John

An overnight fire has displaced 13 people from their homes in a building in downtown Saint John.

The initial fire was in a vacant building on Lancaster Avenue but the blaze affected buildings on either side.

The Canadian Red Cross says it has become involved and is providing alternative accommodations for the residents.

The fire initially caused a loss of power to people living on the block, after electricity was cut to the street.

Firefighters said the cause of the fire is being investigated.

No injuries were reported.
