WINNIPEG — It will be a mild weekend, but a snowy one here in Winnipeg.
In fact pretty much all of southern Manitoba will see some new snow fall over the weekend, how much at this point is still a little questionable.
A clipper tracking eastward will move into the province Saturday where it could drop anywhere between 5-10 centimetres beginning later in the afternoon.
We may not see any warnings issued from Environment Canada as the snow will fall over an extended period of time.
Usually a warning is issued by Environment Canada when 10 cm of snow or more falls within 12 hours or less.
The heaviest snowfall is likely to come in the overnight hours on Saturday and that’s when winds will pick up out of the southeast 30 kilometres an hour gusting upwards of 50 km/h.
We could also see a risk of freezing rain early Saturday night as well with the gusty winds continuing to make highway travel difficult.
The good news is it will be mild with a daytime high of 0 degrees Celsius on Saturday and -7 C on Sunday.
The snow will taper off later on Sunday when we dip to a low of -16 C on Sunday night.
Temperatures will be seasonal to kick off Monday – but colder below normal temperatures return Tuesday night.
