No date set for La Loche Community School re-opening

A date is still unknown for when La Loche Community School will re-open after a fatal shooting last month. File / Global News

It’s still unknown when a school in northern Saskatchewan will re-open after a fatal shooting on Jan. 22. The Northern Lights School Division made the announcement on Wednesday.

According to a statement from director of education Dr. Ken Ladouceur, La Loche Community School will remain closed at least until Feb. 22.

“The school division is working closely with staff, the community and partners during this very challenging time and ensuring the needs of our staff and community are met,” Ladouceur said in a news release.

No decisions have been set at this time about the school’s reopening.

The 17-year-old boy charged in the fatal shooting of two employees at the school and two teenage boys at a house in La Loche is scheduled to make his next court appearance Feb. 22.
