Edmonton police officer charged after investigation into gas theft

EDMONTON — An Edmonton police officer has been charged with theft under $5,000 after an investigation by the EPS Professional Standards Branch.

Const. Heinz Schilling was charged Tuesday in connection with off-duty incidents where the constable was allegedly stealing fuel from City of Edmonton gas pumps.

Police said the internal thefts took place between Sept. 7, 2015 and Oct. 8, 2015.

Schilling, a seven-year member of the police force, has been relieved from duty without pay.

The EPS was not able to comment further on the investigation as the matter is currently before the courts.
