Laval police thank young man for rescuing kidnapped woman

LAVAL – Police have taken to Facebook to thank a young man they consider to be a hero.

Officers said 17-year-old Malyk Bonnet helped a woman who had allegedly been kidnapped by her ex.

The incident happened on Saturday, Aug. 1 when a woman, her child and another member of the family were forced into the metro at Montmorency.

Officers said they had already been looking for the woman for 12 hours at this point.

They had reason to believe her life was in danger.

That night, Bonnet was heading home around 10:30 p.m. when he noticed a man acting oddly towards his female companion.

He followed the couple to a restaurant on Laurentides Boulevard in Laval and, with a borrowed cellphone, called 911.

Bonnet stayed near the couple and even befriended the man while waiting for police to arrive.

Officers arrested the man, who now faces charges of kidnapping and forcible confinement.
