Federal Election 2015: Egmont riding results

Summary: PEI’s western electoral district and the only one held by the Conservatives, Gail Shea seeks re-election in Egmont, a riding to watch this election.

Boundaries: This riding covers the western portion of Prince Edward Island. It saw no boundary changes for this election.

Last Election: Shea won re-election with a victory over Liberal candidate Guy Gallant by 23.3 per cent.

History: This riding, and all of PEI, was staunchly Liberal for decades, until Shea won in 2008, ending 28 years of Liberal domination. Her win in 2008 was by just 55 votes, but she easily won re-election in 2011.

Demographics: 9.2 per cent of people listed French as their mother tongue in the 2011, the second highest number in Atlantic Canada outside of New Brunswick.
