Summary: The most francophone riding in Western Canada, Saint Boniface-Saint Vital will elect a new MP in 2015. Heritage Minister Shelly Glover announced earlier this year she would not be seeking re-election.
Boundaries: The most southeastern of Winnipeg’s eight ridings, Saint Boniface-Saint Vital is roughly the parts of the city east of the Red River, south of the CN line, and north of Bishop Grandin Boulevard, along with the Island Lakes neighbourhood.
Last Election: Shelly Glover was re-elected for the Conservatives, defeating Liberal candidate and former MP Raymond Simard by 19.5 per cent.
History: This riding has been held by the Liberals for 73 of the 90 years a riding has been centred around Saint Boniface, with Glover holding the seat from 2008 to 2015.
Demographics: French is the mother tongue of 13.2 per cent of people, the highest number west of Ontario.
