Federal Election 2015: Portage-Lisgar riding results

Summary: A rural riding to Winnipeg’s southwest, Portage-Lisgar had the highest percentage of Conservative votes in all of Manitoba last election.

Boundaries: It stretches from the U.S. border to the edge of Lake Manitoba, and roughly encompasses all towns from Winnipeg to just west of Portage la Prairie.

Last Election: Conservative MP Candice Bergen was handily re-elected in 2011, defeating NDP candidate Mohamed Alli 76 per cent to 10 per cent.

History: The area has been represented by MPs from the Conservatives, Reform, Canadian Alliance, and Progressive Conservatives since 1953.

Demographics: German is spoken by 22.9 per cent of residents, by far the highest number in Canada.
