VANCOUVER – A former Saskatoon Blades head coach and general manager has landed a new job in the Western Hockey League (WHL). The Vancouver Giants officially announced Molleken as the team’s sixth head coach in the history of the franchise Tuesday.
He was behind the Blades’ bench from 1991 to 1995 and then again from 2004 to 2013.
The 59-year-old Regina native comes to the Giants with over 20 years of coaching experience.

“We know we will have a young group which will create both highs and lows, and Lorne’s experiences will help guide them,” said Scott Bonner, Giants’ executive vice-president and general manager.
In 2013, Molleken became the second coach in WHL history to hit the 600 win milestone.
“I’m really looking forward to getting back behind the bench. It’s something that I’ve really missed, especially being away from the game last year,” said Molleken.
Molleken has also coached in the NHL. He served as head and assistant coach of the Chicago Blackhawks as well as an assistant coach with the San Jose Sharks and Pittsburgh Penguins.
