Person found dead inside burned out vehicle west of Edmonton

WATCH: RCMP are investigating after a body was found inside a burned out vehicle near Stony Plain. Tom Vernon has the details.

EDMONTON — An autopsy has been scheduled for Tuesday after a body was found inside a burned out vehicle in Parkland County Friday morning.

RCMP say a vehicle fire took place on a service road just north of Highway 16, between Range Roads 13 and 14 west of Stony Plain.

Officers were called to the scene around 6 a.m. Friday, although it’s not known when the fire took place or who discovered the vehicle and alerted police.

A tent was set up near the vehicle Friday morning and police blocked off the scene with tape.

Police remained on scene well into Friday night. Fire investigators were also called in to investigate the cause of the blaze.

The burned out car and the human remains were removed from the scene by Saturday morning, RCMP said.
