EDMONTON — A 24-year-old woman has been charged with several drug-related offences after police found drugs in the stroller that was carrying her 18-month-old child.
Police were responding to a shoplifting call in City Centre Mall around 5 p.m. Thursday when the discovery was made.
Two water bottles containing more than 100 millilitres of GHB – which is commonly referred to as the “date rape” drug – and one ounce of crystal methamphetamine were found in the baby stroller. There was also a small amount of crack cocaine in a baby’s lunch bag, police said.
Police say the woman was also carrying various drug trafficking items, including a scale, baggies and score sheets, which police say are drug sales lists.
“Thankfully, this isn’t a routine occurrence,” said EPS spokesperson Scott Pattison. “We were rather shocked.”
Members of the EPS Child at Risk Response Team were called in and took the woman’s child into their care.
The woman, whose name has not been released, was charged with one count of possession, two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, theft under $5,000 and breach of recognizance. She was also charged under the Child and Family Enhancement Act with causing a child to be in need of intervention and child endangerment.
