The remains of the victim of the North Shore homicide dating back to 2012 have now been identified.
The woman, who went under the name of “Jane Doe,” has been identified as 31-year-old Fatemah (Sara) Norouzy-Pooresfahany.
Her remains were found off of a gravel pathway in North Vancouver in August 2012.
Norouzy-Pooresfahany is originally from Iran.
She was living in North Vancouver with her mother for several years.
They both left Canada to return to Iran.
In December 2011, Sara returned to Canada by herself.
She had minimal contact with her mother after she returned to Canada and in September of this year, her mother returned to Canada to look for her daughter.
Norouzy-Pooresfahany’s mother got in touch with the North Vancouver RCMP, which ultimately resulted in IHIT getting involved.
The victim’s identity was confirmed through DNA analysis.
Sara had no fixed address, but was known to frequent between Burnaby and North Vancouver.
She would occasionally stay at homeless shelters.
Investigators believe Sara was last alive at the end of July. Her remains were located less than three weeks later.
IHIT is now looking for any information in connection with her death. They are looking to speak with anyone who has any information about Sara’s lifestyle, identify associates and friends and determine what led up to her final days.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the IHIT tipline at 1-877-551-4448, or, if you wish to remain anonymous call Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
