Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency Deputy Chief David Meldrum said during an update on Saturday afternoon that crews are mainly dealing with hot spots after rainy weather helped extinguish most of the open flames of the wildfires burning outside of Halifax. “There were a few small ones, largely it’s hot spots that are evidenced by smoke and by smell and they see that smoke starting to rise from the ground – and they’re going to have to dig that out,” Meldrum said.
