Italy set to elect first female prime minister: near-final results

Italy's election results are nearly final with the country appearing close to electing its first-ever female prime minister. Giorgia Meloni, the leader of the Brothers of Italy party, has netted about 26 per cent of the vote. The country's centre-right coalition, which includes her party, collected about 44 per cent of the popular vote, enough to take control of parliament. If given the mandate to govern, Italy will have its most right-wing government since the Second World War.
