Canada could test wastewater for polio ‘should that need arise’: Tam

Dr. Theresa Tam, Canada's chief public health officer, said Friday that while the Public Health Agency had not yet tested wastewater for polioviruses, they were already starting to look at options to do so “should that need arise.” Deputy chief public health officer Dr. Howard Njoo added that the country had the technology to do such testing, but the rise in cases of the virus abroad raises concerns provinces and territories may need to address potential gaps or "catch up" needed on childhood vaccinations.
