Canada’s governor-general speaks of unmarked graves, calls on everyone to walk ‘road to reconciliation’

Gov. Gen. Mary Simon spoke Friday at a Canada Day ceremony, saying the "spirit of celebration does not extend to everyone" and spoke of the impact the discover of unmarked graves near former residential schools has had on Indigenous people. She called on everyone to work together to "walk the road to reconciliation," saying it begins with "understanding and respect." Simon also asked Canadians as they celebrate Canada Day to continue working to an inclusive society.
