Micheál Martin elected as Irish Taoiseach to lead historic coalition

Micheál Martin was elected as Ireland’s new Taoiseach or prime minister to head a coalition tasked with handling the economic repercussions of the COVID-19 crisis, and accelerating the response to the climate crisis. Outgoing Taoiseach Leo Varadkar will return to office halfway through the five-year term under a novel rotation agreement.
