China welcomes detained Canadian’s wife’s comments
China on Wednesday welcomed comments on the extradition case of Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou from the wife of a Canadian charged with espionage. Michael Kovrig, 48, was arrested by Chinese authorities in Beijing in December 2018, and was formally charged last week. His arrest, like that of Canadian businessman Michael Spavor around the same time, is widely believed to be in retaliation for the arrest of Meng on U.S. fraud charges in Vancouver. Kovrig’s wife, Vina Nadjibulla, who lives in Toronto, went public about the case for the first time this week.
