Coronavirus: WHO praises U.K.’s findings on potential benefit of steroid dexamethasone

World Health Organization (WHO) director-general Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on Monday that findings by a U.K. drug trial that steroid dexamethasone has a life-saving potential for critically-ill COVID-19 patients “gave us a much needed reason to celebrate.” However, he stressed that the drug should only be used for patients in severe or critical conditions under close clinical supervision and that there is no evidence it would work for patients with mild symptoms or as a preventative measure and it could cause harm.
