Coronavirus outbreak: Trump, Fauci hopeful about Gilead’s COVID-19 drug Remdesivir

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, told reporters on Wednesday that the drug Remdesivir helped improve outcomes for patients with COVID-19 in a clinical trial, and provided data suggesting it worked better when given earlier in the course of illness caused by the virus, but it still needs to be further analyzed. IN the same Oval Office meeting, U.S. President Donald Trump expressed optimism that the drug might provide an effective treatment for COVID-19.
