Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Thursday announced the government was committing $1.1 billion for a national medical and research strategy that would include research into vaccines and treatments, support for clinical trials and expanding national testing and monitoring in the search for a treatment for COVID-19. He said from this money, $350 million would be put into testing and monitoring and include the creation of the COVID-19 Immunity Task Force. At least one million Canadians will be tested over the next two years as part of this program, Trudeau said.
