Trump threatens auto tariffs instead of border shutdown, economic penalty for drugs

Backing off his threat to shut down the southern border, President Donald Trump warned instead he’d impose tariffs on cars coming to the U.S. from Mexico unless the Mexican authorities do more to stop the flow of migrants into the U.S. He also said he was looking into an economic penalty for drugs smuggled into the country.
