China criticized U.S. President Donald Trump’s “Golden Dome” missile defense plan on Tuesday, warning it threatens global security, could accelerate the militarization of space, and begin an arms race. Beijing accused the U.S. of pursuing “absolute security” at the expense of international strategic balance and urged Washington to abandon the plan. The criticism came just hours after Trump announced the $175-billion system, designed to intercept missiles from land, sea, and space. Trump also said Canada is interested in joining the initiative, which he claims will be operational before the end of his term.
