Description
October 2, 2023
Hungarian scientist Katalin Karikó and her American colleague Drew Weissman have won the 2023 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, for making mRNA molecule discoveries that paved the way for COVID-19 vaccines. How decades of perseverance paved the way for scientific achievement. After Parliament celebrated Yaroslav Hunka, who fought for a Nazi unit during the Second World War, the federal government is being urged to release secret details about suspected Nazi collaborators who were allowed to enter Canada after the war ended. The push to declassify the 1986 report from the Deschênes Commission, which investigated alleged claims that Second World War criminals found refuge in Canada. Donald Trump's civil fraud trial is underway in a Manhattan courtroom. He, his two eldest sons, and the Trump Organization are accused of lying about his real estate empire in order to secure loans. What both Trump and New York Attorney General Letitia James have said about the lawsuit and what he stands to lose. The world's greatest gymnast of all time makes history again. What Simone Biles just did at an international competition following a two-year absence. Plus, owning a home isn't common for people in most Indigenous communities, but that dream has come true for residents in Nisga'a Nation in northern British Columbia. How it's empowered this community, and what work still needs to be done.
