As of May 27, there are more than 5.6 million cases of the coronavirus around the world, and more than 353,000 deaths. Almost 1.7 million cases have been recorded in the U.S.

Focusing too much on "magic bullets" such as vaccines, new treatments, or the hope that COVID-19 will evaporate and go away is not the answer, the journal says. 

The administration has disputed the notion that the CDC had been sidelined, saying the agency is integral to the administration’s plans to expand contact tracing nationwide.

Released by the U.S. CDC on Wednesday, the report sheds some light on the age groups impacted by COVID-19, the disease caused by the virus.
