Since April, there have been 337 calls about bear encounters in the Tofino-Ucluelet area, a 400-per cent increase over last year.

The B.C. Conservation Officer Service says the man was not hurt, but is urging people to take precautions in the area of Kootowis Creek, where the incident happened last week.
