Hamilton was one of the earliest voices sounding the alarm about sex workers and women vanishing from the Downtown Eastside in the late 1980s and 1990s.

"They lined up all the women, asked for their IDs and took note of their tattoos and piercings," said the executive director of the Montreal advocacy group.
