Lance David Blanchard, an Alberta man convicted in a brutal June 2014 sexual assault, was designated a dangerous offender by a judge in Edmonton on Friday afternoon.

A man convicted of sexually assaulting an indigenous woman whom the Crown had jailed and shackled to ensure her testimony has applied for legal records to try to discredit her as he seeks a mistrial.

Alberta Justice Minister Kathleen Ganley is demanding answers after it was revealed a sex assault victim was shackled and jailed during her case and was even forced to ride in a prison van with her attacker.
