In pre-trail motions Monday, Greg Dunn said emails showed the RCMP accelerated its investigation in order to lay charges before Calgarians went to the polls.

Calgary police have asked the RCMP to step in and investigate a city councillor's expenses after a probe into Joe Magliocca‘s finances over the last two years found an excess of $5,000 in ineligible expenditures.

The findings have been forwarded to the Calgary Police Service and Alberta's minister of municipal affairs for further investigation.
