A tentative labor deal with GM sends a clear signal to Ford and Fiat Chrysler that the autoworkers union is determined to secure new investment in local plants, the union's president said.

Canada's main autoworkers union remained far from a deal with General Motors on Monday evening though the automaker had made a contract proposal, the union's president said.

General Motors Co and the Canadian union Unifor have not yet made any significant progress in their talks to hammer out a new contract, the labor group's President Jerry Dias said.
